Did you know that Ukrainians created one of the most democratic documents and societies in history?

The constitution of Philip Orlik in 1710 is one of the first in the world to regulate the rights of a vassal and his subordinates. Subsequently, similar documents were adopted in the United States (1787), France, and Poland (1791). The constitution of Philip Orlik was in fact an agreement between the hetman of the Zaporozhian Army Philip Orlik and the Cossacks with the chief (on their behalf, the document was signed by the chieftain Kost Gordienko). The document was written in two languages – Latin and Old Ukrainian.
The full title of the act in Latin is “Pacta et Constitutiones legum libertatumque exercitus zaporoviensis”.

The whole Slavic expansion started from the medieval state of Kievan Rus which emerged as a powerful nation in the Middle Ages, but disintegrated in the 12th century.

The desire for freedom has been a dream for Ukrainians throughout history. Ukrainian lands were occupied by the Golden Horde, the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the Kingdom of Poland (during the 16th century these lands came to power Kingdom of Poland, then the Commonwealth (since 1569), the Crimean Khanate (since the 15th century), the Russian Empire, Habsburg Austria and the USSR.

Ukraine finally became an independent state in 1991, but that was just the beginning of the difficult road to freedom. The Orange Revolution of 2004 was the first step in declaring to the world that Ukrainians are a freedom-loving people, but Russian influence led to the Revolution of Dignity in 2013, when Ukrainians once again proved their will to be not only a free and independent state but also a modern, civilized and progressive country. It can be compared to the Boston Uprising of 1689 against the reign of Sir Edmund Andros, but the Ukrainians paid a heavy price for it. President Yanukovych killed hundreds of people and fled with millions in stolen funds.

Russia annexed Crimea and brought troops into eastern Ukraine and created the self-proclaimed states of Donetsk and Luhansk. For eight years, Ukraine tried to quell the conflict, but in 2022 Putin began a full-scale invasion of the country.
Now countries around the World are supporting Ukraine as the last wall between a peaceful life and the brutal aggressive policies of dictators. Ukraine is fighting for freedom and democracy, the question is, will you help?
